Η εστίαση σε θετικές προγραμματικές προτάσεις για περιβαλλοντικά και κοινωνικά υπεύθυνες λύσεις στη σημερινή χρηματιστική κρίση παρότι αξιοθαύμαστη, δεν πρέπει να μας κάνει να ξεχάσουμε την ανάγκη παραγωγής άμεσων πολιτικών αποτελεσμάτων, ιδιαίτερα όταν αντιστρατευόμαστε αντιπάλους που κινούν τα νήματα της εξουσίας και προωθούν πολιτικές της αρεσκείας τους.

Η επιλογή του Τόνυ Μπλαιρ από τον Γάλλο πρόεδρο Σαρκοζί να συν-διευθύνουν στο Παρίσι, στις αρχές Ιανουαρίου 2009, (μετά τη λήξη της Γαλλικής προεδρίας της ΕΕ), μια διεθνή συνδιάσκεψη υπό τον τίτλο «Νέος Κόσμος: Αξίες, Ανάπτυξη και Ρύθμιση» υπαινίσσεται ότι η Γαλλία δεν έχει εγκαταλείψει δύο φιλόδοξους στόχους της που πρέπει να μας ανησυχήσουν. Τη φιλοδοξία να διαμορφώσει την Ευρώπη ‘καθ’ εικόνα και ομοίωση της’ και τη φιλοδοξία να ενθρονίσει τον Τόνυ Μπλαιρ στη θέση του πρώτου, με πλήρεις αρμοδιότητες, προέδρου του μεταρρυθμισμένου Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου, σύμφωνα με τις επιταγές της Συμφωνίας της Λισαβόνας.

Οι οργανωτές της επικείμενης συνδιάσκεψης του Παρισιού έχουν εξασφαλίσει τη συμμετοχή προσωπικοτήτων όπως ο Ζόζεφ Στίγκλιτζ και άλλων που έχουν συνδεθεί με την εναντίωση προς τη νεοφιλελεύθερη οικονομία και πολιτική.

Αυτό συνεπάγεται μια αναβαθμισμένη αξιοπιστία για τα σχέδια του Σαρκοζί αναφορικά με τον Μπλαιρ, παρά το πλήγμα που δέχθηκαν τον περασμένο Μάη όταν η Άντζελα Μέρκελ αρνήθηκε να τα υποστηρίξει και ο Σαρκοζί υποχρεώθηκε σε αναδίπλωση αναγνωρίζοντας ότι «η εμπλοκή του Μπλαιρ στον πόλεμο του Ιράκ κηλίδωσε την υπόληψη του ανάμεσα στα άλλα μέλη της ΕΕ.»

Πρέπει οι πολίτες να ανακτήσουν τη πολιτική πρωτοβουλία σε αυτό το ζήτημα που ειδάλλως διατρέχει τον κίνδυνο να υλοποιηθεί χωρίς προσκόμματα. Η εκλογική εκστρατεία για τις Ευρωπαϊκές εκλογές του 2009 είναι μια σημαντική ευκαιρία να εξαπολυθεί μια εκστρατεία ενάντια στη προσπάθεια του Σαρκοζί να συγκροτήσει μια Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση στα πρότυπα της διοίκησης Μπους που οι Αμερικανοί εκδίωξαν εκλογικά από την εξουσία.

Ας θυμηθούμε το γεγονός ότι στο Διεθνές Ποινικό Δικαστήριο της Χάγης έχει υποβληθεί αίτημα να διερευνήσει τις κατηγορίες περί εγκλημάτων πολέμου για τον Τόνυ Μπλαιρ. Υπάρχει μια ογκούμενη απαίτηση στη Βρετανία να δικαστεί ο Μπλαιρ ως εγκληματίας πολέμου και ήρθε ο καιρός το αίτημα αυτό να καταστεί πανευρωπαϊκό. Η κοινωνική Ευρώπη είναι σε θέση να πρωτοστατήσει σε μια εκστρατεία γύρω από το αίτημα.
